About the role:
This is an opportunity to learn about working with volunteers to
improve access to the countryside in Powys. The
successful candidate will work with the Council's
Countryside Volunteer Co-ordinator to organise and
oversee practical work days, with tasks ranging from
installing gates to bridges.
About you:
Enthusiasm and an interest in helping people to access the countryside on pubic paths and greenspaces
Able to work well with other people and communicate verbally, by phone and email
Willing to learn new practical tasks and skills
Able to access remote rural locations, on foot often over difficult terrain and able to drive themselves to to remote sites and pickup points.
Basic skills in IT (email and MS Word) and able to take accurate numeric measurements
Willing to spend time outdoors in all weathers!
What you will do:
Work both independently and under the direction of the Volunteer Co ordinator to carry out a range of practical tasks on the public rights of way network and public greenspace across the county of Powys (outside the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.)
Support with manual handling in relation to materials, equipment and tools related to work tasks, including installation of bridges and gates.
With training, be able to support work days, write site specific risk assessments to deliver practical works and ensure volunteers work in a safe environment, including giving toolbox talks each work day.
Liaise with volunteers and the Countryside Access and Recreation team to organise and carry out volunteer tasks.
