An exciting opportunity has been created in the Royal London Hospital Acute SLT Team for an experienced clinician to support our small team to provide clinical leadership, expertise and training for staff on key areas of clinical practice:
• Critical Care (including management of tracheostomised and ventilated patients)
• FEES training (Must be at Level 3)
• Videofluoroscopy training (RCSLT Level 3 or equivalent)

We are looking for a highly experienced and dynamic individual who is committed to working alongside our existing Clinical Leadership team to promote evidence-based practice in the assessment and treatment of patients with swallowing and communication difficulties. The postholder should therefore have an active interest and experience in clinical research in the field of acute speech & language therapy practice.

You will be a strong, compassionate and visible leader with the ability to build relationships with partners outside of SLT and influence others. We are looking for someone to teach and inspire SLTs providing clinical and professional leadership. This role is focused on leadership in these domains with no direct operational or management responsibilities to enable our team to innovate and excel.
• To provide clinical leadership and expertise to the Speech & Language Therapy team at RLH
• To lead on clinical education, competencies and guideline development to ensure an evidence based service is provided by the team
• To lead on the development of skills and knowledge across the team in the specialist areas of Critical Care, FEES and videofluoroscopy
• To seek opportunities to continuously develop the service in these clinical areas to ensure the delivery of best practice and safe patient-centred care at all times
• To identify research opportunities and lead the therapy involvement in research trials within Critical Care or pertaining to dysphagia / FEES or videofluoroscopy.
• To use expert clinical reasoning skills to provide highly specialist support and advice to the Speech & Language Therapy team and other medical staff, whilst maintaining a clinical caseload of highly complex patients

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which ourWeCarevalues and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by ourWeCarevalues and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment.

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates as they are underrepresented within Barts Health at this band.
