Birmingham Newman University's School of Business and Law is expanding its Law subject area and seeks a motivated and skilled Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Law. This position offers an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate to contribute significantly to our Law programme's growth and to play a vital role in shaping its future. We would welcome applications from candidates with an interest in or experience supporting students with pro bono activities, reflecting our commitment to practical legal education and community engagement.
About the Role:
The successful applicant will:
• Deliver engaging, student-centred teaching across the undergraduate LLB programme, including both core and elective modules.
• Employ innovative and interactive teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes and student engagement.
• Develop and integrate work-based learning opportunities and employability skills within the curriculum, aligning with the needs of the law profession.
• Advance the Law subject area through effective outreach, the establishment of external partnerships, and participation in knowledge exchange activities.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the university to promote the Law programme, contributing to its development and the broader academic community.
Responsibilities include:
• Design and plan dynamic modules that reflect current legal practices and theories, ensuring an inclusive and flexible learning environment.
• Actively contribute to curriculum development and review, ensuring the Law programme remains relevant and rigorous.
• Support student success as an Academic Personal Tutor, guiding their academic and professional development.
• Engage in research and scholarship that informs teaching and enriches the student learning experience.
• Participate in and lead initiatives aimed at enhancing student employability, including liaising with legal professionals and organisations.
Qualifications:
• Required for Lecturer: LLB (Hons) or equivalent professional qualifications, alongside a relevant teaching qualification, HEA Fellowship, or experience in legal education or training.
• Required for Senior Lecturer: In addition to the above, a Master's degree in Law or related fields, or evidence of advanced professional qualifications. Experience in professional practice, pro-bono work, and leadership in academic or professional settings is highly desirable.
• A strong commitment to ongoing professional development and research within the field of Law.
