Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to come and work with the team at Bircham Newton as a Plant Maintenance Mechanic.

The target salary for this role is £40,000 and is part of the Specialist Contributor Grade (SC2) and you will need to attend Bircham Newton each day.

Role purpose:

Ensure that all off the National Construction Colleges training continues to deliver high quality training utilising a range of up-to-date plant and equipment.

The role will be responsible for the maintaining, repairing, inspection and examination of the fleet of plant and equipment used by NCC/CITB always ensuring that they are serviceable, safe for use and good order. The fleet consists off a wide range of earth moving equipment, mobile elevating work platforms and cranes (mobile, crawler and tower) as well as small tools and site maintenance equipment.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities :

1. Working under the direction and supervision off the Plant Workshop Manager ensure that the Plant and Equipment used by NCC/CITB is maintained and examined as per legislative and organisational requirements.

2. Timely and accurate completion of individual job sheets to ensure that detailed records are kept of any necessary maintenance and inspections as per legislative and organisational requirements.

3. Ensure that all work activities carried out in the workshop or on any off CITB’s sites are carried out in compliance with Risk Assessments and safe systems off work in line with the manufacturer’s instructions.

4. Ensure that any required spare parts are requested in a timely manner to minimise any delays to the completion off repairs/maintenance to plant or equipment minimising machine down time through breakdowns.

5. In the absence off the Workshop manager act as his deputy, liaise with Curriculum manager to ensure the function off the workshop continues as required.

6. Lead, supervise and assist with the development of apprentices within the Plant Workshop.

7. Ensure all work areas are kept in a safe and tidy condition ensuring compliance with safe systems of work and environmental requirements.

People Leadership / Team Leadership – where the role has direct or matrix reports.

· Responsible for working with others and supporting the wider team when required.

· Act as a role model for all staff, trainees and visitors to NCC Colleges.

· Provide technical support and provide supervision of apprentice plant mechanics and course support.

Plant Workshop Manager, to ensure that tasks are prioritised in accordance with requirement for plant and equipment for training departments.

Program Managers, Instructors, to obtain accurate information relating to faults on plant or equipment.

External:

Insurance engineers to assist with the completion off independent thorough examinations.

External organisations who maintain new and specialist equipment.
