Summary

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Service Delivery

Direct work with young people and their families to deliver the aims and priorities of the Council's youth strategy.

  • Responsible for the delivery innovative group work programmes that support young people to engage and progress in education, training and employment.

  • To co-design programmes with young people using sound evidence based or research methodology.

  • Deliver intensive periods of support using models of mentoring and coaching to encourage and support young people.

  • Work assertively to engage young people and work flexibly and creatively to maintain motivation and engagement utilising principles of motivational interviewing.

  • Work with young people and their families using a systemic framework to assess strengths and needs and help them devise a step by step action plan.

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of young people in all contexts, with awareness of the risks that may be faced in respect of physical health and emotional well-being, educational attainment, sexual development, CSE, crime and gang activity and personal finance.

  • Engage and build respectful, honest, challenging and supportive relationships with young people including those who may previously have had little contact with services and may be hard to reach.

  • Support young people to engage in positive activities and provide opportunities for personal development that will provide diversion and help them make positive changes in their lives.

  • Acquire local knowledge in order to engage young people in the widest range of services and opportunities and in order to work in collaboration with partners to create new opportunities for young people.

  • Work in a variety of settings in the community including youth clubs and youth hubs and deliver outreach with the Detached and Outreach team in order to reach young people that are not engaging with services

  • Keep up to date with emerging research and evidence based interventions relevant to child and adolescent development, and ensure targeted group work delivery effectively contributes to the provision of universal and early help services for children and families.

  • Assess and balance risk and vulnerability to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. This should include an assessment of risk in different contexts of a young person's life including within their community, peer groups and School as well as within the family (Contextual Safeguarding).

Qualifications

Essential:

· A good standard of general education.

· English and mathematics at GCSE level C or equivalent

· Level 3 Formal IAG Qualification with the willingness to work towards Level 6 or another relevant qualification (youth work, teaching, social work) and significant experience of working with NEET young people

Desirable:

· Qualifications or training in motivational interviewing, trauma informed practice, systemic practice
