As Senior Design Manager for the Taymouth Castle project you will work closely with the VP of Development and Construction and will play an important role in the daily coordination, management, and execution of the design process throughout the project. Your primary responsibility will be overseeing exceptional standards of design implementation through collaborated working with project business stakeholders. Guiding potential owners with their own individual property design, from inception to completion. Following building regulation requirements and ensuring exceptional standards of delivery throughout the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will have full responsibility for the management of design throughout this exciting project through collaboration with all the project areas; Taymouth Castle, Kenmore Village and Glenlyon. And any additional DLC properties within the local area.
  • Ensuring that timely decisions and the design are delivered in line with the planned programme.
  • Liaise with key project business stakeholders and potential property owners to guide them through the design and the planning while making them aware of any building regulation requirements.
  • Create and develop design briefs and vision plans for project feasibility stage together with the DLC development team.
  • Participate in the design team and contractor prequalification selection process. Ensure the suitable selection of consultants and contractors who meet the agreed project requirements.
  • Review the scope of services for each design team agreement. Ensuring the designer’s scope of works and design responsibilities are clearly defined and understood by everyone involved.
  • Effectively manage the design budget in conjunction with the project team.
  • Conduct design reviews at the end of the design stage. Ensure the design is compliant with brief, design guidelines and operational requirements.
  • Visually present the reviews at each stage in conjunction with the development team leaders. Exhibiting the reviews to business stakeholders and property owners.
  • Conduct buildability reviews. Ensuring completeness of the design to meet employer’s requirements in readiness for tendering.
  • Together with the design, operations, project management team facilitate project design workshops during the design and development phase and confidently provide design solutions.
  • Chair regular project design meetings with consultants, development team and contractors to resolve any design issues in a timely manner.
  • Attending value engineering workshops and providing input through advice and guidance with value engineering proposals.
  • Support the development team during the tender stage with design related queries.
  • Review samples, mock up’s, design proposals ensuring they comply with both the stakeholder and property owners’ requirements and design intent.
  • Liaise with local planning consultant and the planning authority. Provide related design project information to support the planning applications required by the development team.
  • Professionally respond to all client design related requests during the design and construction phase.
  • Sensitively design solutions to complement existing assets.
  • Experience in the use of sustainable and energy saving construction materials.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

  • You will be experienced in design management and architecture. Particularly in real estate, new build residential and listed building developments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, or a relevant professional qualification. RIBA or Chartered Member of ARB.
  • The ability to manage and effectively collaborate with various departments and stakeholders such as property owners, project management companies, design consultants, architects and operators to implement design projects.
  • A strong understanding of the design processes, CAD systems, drawings, models, and RIBA design stages, or its equivalent.
  • An up-to date knowledge of the Scottish building and planning regulations.
  • Self-assured communicator with excellent interpersonal skills. You will have experience with and feel comfortable liaising directly with high profile clients and stakeholders.
