We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, so please clearly include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a proven technical ability to join our team of Senior Technical Officers (STO) in Climate Change Trading and Regulatory Services (CCTRS).
Do you appreciate how regulation of business and industry can make a big contribution to a more sustainable economy in our country? Then we need you.
Within our part of the Environment Agency we oversee the full range of compliance activities under a number of energy efficiency/emissions reduction regulations.
The role involves:
• Confirming which organisations need to be regulated by us and registering them.
• Assessing compliance against a number of energy efficiency/emissions reduction regulations
• Providing advice and guidance to those we regulate
• Interpreting new guidance and regulations
• Developing internal guidance.
• Training and mentoring colleagues
• Taking enforcement action to bring operators/organisations back into compliance
• Working with external partners in government and private business to review and improve regulation.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
Whilst we are working flexibly between office locations and home, occasional travel to offices will be required. Your base location will be Warrington, Sheffield or Preston. Travel/commuting to your contractual office base location is at your own expense.
The role sits within Climate Change, Trading and Regulatory Services (CCTRS). We regulate and administer various UK Government climate change schemes. The aim is to protect and improve our environment.
Regimes include UK Emissions Trading Scheme, UK Registry, Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases (F-Gas) and Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS), Clean Heat Market Mechanism (CHMM), Climate Change Agreements and Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme. These regimes are central to ensuring the UK meets targets relating to greenhouse gas emissions.

Self-motivated team player with strong organisational skills
An eye for detail and accuracy
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office particularly Word/Excel
Develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers.
Capability to adapt to new systems
Can prioritise workflows and be agile and innovative.
Strong team player.
Promote cross regime working within the department and promote a culture of ‘one team’.
Experience of compliance and enforcement would be desirable.
Relevant experience in one of the CCTRS regimes would be an advantage but is not essential.
The candidate pack and role profile should be read along with the advert to understand the key accountabilities and skills needed. Open in converted file format and refer to the ‘How to apply’ section for further information of competency-based assessments.
