Role Location
The role would be office based in London, Brighton, Bristol or Warrington (or hybrid home/office based in any of these locations). A home-based role may be considered.

The Role
The role(s) would be part of our specialist Environmental Policy and Economics (EPE) team (environmentalpolicyandeconomics.com), which works horizontally across the Group. The team has been involved with some of the highest profile and complex environmental policy studies for the UK and European Governments, the European Commission, their agencies as well as policy makers in North America, the Middle East and across Asia (including work funded by the World Bank and Asian Development Bank). We benefit from leading roles on a wide range of policy frameworks and a portfolio of work in climate change, air quality and emissions, chemicals, circular economy, waste and water policy.

We are looking for an economist with particular experience in applied micro-economics and welfare or public policy economics, preferably in the context of environmental policy. You will play a key role in the team, working alongside other economists, natural capital experts, scientists and policy professionals. You will be helping us to continue to grow and deliver impactful work of the highest technical quality across our portfolio, both in the UK and internationally. We are seeking an individual to provide technical economics expertise and analysis in multi-disciplinary teams, manage projects and support the methodological design and drafting of tenders. You will oversee budgets and provide technical direction and support to more junior staff. The role would suit those who are passionate about applying the tools of economic analysis to public policy design, improvement and decision making.

Skills and experience we are looking for:
• Postgraduate qualification in economics, or with a substantial economics component.
• Experience in applied economics in the development, impact assessment, evaluation, or appraisal of policy for UK or international public authorities, government and / or industry clients. This may have been achieved in a consultancy, government, research agency/think tank, NGO or private sector / industry organisation and ideally applied to an environmental or sustainability agenda.
• Experience in project management as well as in leading or coordinating funding applications or competitive tendering processes.
• Excellent communication and critical analysis skills with the ability to write clear and concise reports in English.
• As an indication, for a Senior Consultant role, at least five years of relevant professional work experience would be expected to provide the necessary experience. For a Principal Consultant role at least seven years would be required.
The following would be desirable:
• Experience in national and/or international environmental policy in at least one of following topics: climate change, chemicals, circular economy, air quality, industrial emissions, waste and/or water.
• Experience undertaking policy / programme evaluations and/or impact assessments and/or cost benefit analysis and or applying techniques to place monetary values on externalities.
• Experience of working in/with UK Government (and/or their agencies), another national government or agency and/or an international body such as the European Commission.
• Experience in assessing the relationship between environmental policy and competition, competitiveness and innovation.
• Proficiency in other EU language(s).
