We are currently looking for Sterile Services Technician to join us in our busy Sterile Services Department. The Department provides an important service within the Hospital, Decontaminating and Sterilizing Surgical instruments for the Operating Theatres/Wards, Departments and external customers. The Department is fully accredited to British, International and European Standards and works within a Quality System.

1 vacancy available working a 3 week working pattern, Monday to Friday 1400-2200, Monday to Friday 1000-1800, Monday to Saturday 0730-1530 with a day off in a week either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

Applicants will also be given training to cover the full range of the decontamination cycle for surgical instruments and theatre sets which will contribute towards the achievement of the BTEC National Diploma in Decontamination for re-usable medical devices.

This is a varied role requiring many different skills, for which we will provide full training. You must have GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent and willing to become familiar with many different instruments and sundries. Previous Sterile Services experience is helpful although not essential but you must be able to communicate well, work within a team and take instruction.



Sustainability is integral to the Trust achieving the NHS Net Zero target. All staff are therefore actively encouraged and supported to implement new ways of working within their field of expertise.

To provide effective and efficient decontamination/sterilization of re-usable medical devices for use in direct patient care across all areas of Sterile Services.
To carry out the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing and sterilization of reusable medical devices. Record all tasks into the track and trace computer system.
Performs a range of routine and non-routine tasks of testing different types of decontamination/medical devices using chemical, electronic test indicators and visual.
The role involves exposure to blood and body fluids.
The post holder will participate in the Sterile Service Technician shift rota, including the weekend/public holiday on-call rota.
May be required to supervise and/or train less experienced staff in own area of work.
Plan your own workload with limited supervision.
Will be required to achieve NVQ level 3, City and Guilds or BTec National Diploma in Decontamination.
