Crynodeb

Based at Atherleigh Park, we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic 8b clinical/counselling psychologist to work within our Wigan Home Based Treatment Team. You will be joining an experienced multi-disciplinary team which includes Psychiatry, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Assistant Psychologists, Support Workers, Peer Support Workers and Advanced Practitioners. The successful candidate will receive regular clinical supervision from the Consultant Clinical Psychologist for urgent care. This post is part of the wider inpatient and urgent care psychology network, and there will be access to informal support and peer supervision from experienced psychology colleagues within these teams. You will be co-located with the Inpatient Psychology Team which includes 3 qualified psychologists plus 5 assistant psychologists, and you will also work alongside our community colleagues to offer high quality, patient centred care.

Opportunities for continuous professional development are available and will be supported dependent on the needs and interests of the post-holder. The Urgent Care Psychology Team are currently working to establish a trauma interventions pathway to offer interventions to people where their crisis experience is driven by unresolved trauma, or where early treatment would likely prevent future distress and negative impacts on quality of life and functioning. Funding has been agreed for the successful candidate in this post to access EMDR training, with ongoing specialist supervision to apply this in a Home Based Treatment setting.

This full time, permanent post will be based within the Wigan Home Based Treatment Team. Supported by two full time Assistant Psychologists who are already in post, the successful candidate will be joining a team who value psychology and already have an established psychology provision, with the opportunity for the right person to expand and develop this further. You will supervise the Assistant Psychologists to deliver the Crisis Toolbox, an evidence-based intervention which has been successfully developed and evaluated within the team. A key part of the role will involve supporting others through consultation, training, supervision, service development, audit and service evaluation. You will work alongside the Team Manager, Psychiatrist and Clinical Leads to develop psychologically informed care pathways and trauma informed care. You will also offer supervision to MDT colleagues to enable the Crisis Toolbox interventions to become part of the wider Home Based Treatment Team therapeutic offer. You will hold a small caseload of clients and offer individual assessment, formulation and brief intervention to a diverse range of people who are accessing the team at a time of crisis. You will link up with other services and offer effective signposting to enhance the patient journey.

Flexible working options are available, and we would be happy to discuss this with you to ensure a healthy work / life balance. We would also be happy to consider offering this post as a Band 8a to 8b preceptorship for candidates who meet all of the essential criteria for the role but require time and support to develop the experience and skills required for an 8b post.
