Crynodeb
The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. The post holder will be expected to undertake the following duties: Provide a safe level of care for all patients admitted under the surgical department. To collaborate with other health care professional to provide timely care for all patients in the hospital. Contribute to the development and maintenance of clinical protocols. Ensure that standards are maintained and developed through clinical audit, evidence-based research and appraisal. To attend monthly governance, mortality and morbidity meetings, audit meetings and specialty quarterly review meetings. Be familiar with the College curricula for resident doctor training and be trained appropriately to contribute to their training requirements, including tutorials, on- the-job teaching, mentoring, appraisal and workplace-based assessment. Maintain personal professional development in accordance with the requirements of the Royal Colleges and the General Medical Council. Ensure that new techniques (outside ethically approved research projects) are only introduced after appropriate training, with approval of the relevant clinical directorates and with arrangements for evaluation and an audit trail. Agree an annual job plan with the Clinical Lead and participate in annual appraisal using the Trust system. Work in partnership with colleagues across the hospital. Provide cover for medical colleagues periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within the Department. Organisational Duties: Promote a friendly and team based working environment in line with our Trust Values. Teaching of primary care colleagues and resident medical staff through mixture of case-based review and formal teaching activity All Staff in the Department are managerially accountable to the Clinical Lead who has overall responsibility for Surgical Services. The post holder will work within the Trusts framework for Corporate Governance including standing orders, standing financial instructions and financial procedures. As part of the Divisional Team, assist in the cost-effective utilisation of resources, including pay and non-pay items such as equipment and drugs, within budgets. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge in liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operation Policy and Strategic Plan. All clinical staff are individually accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their actions to those for which they are deemed competent. Clinical staff are also required to comply with the requirements of their professional organisations regarding supervision. All qualified staff have a responsibility to supervise unqualified/more resident staff and students on a day-to-day basis to ensure that patients receive appropriate care and that any untoward action is addressed. These posts within the Trust are subject to review. If any changes are required in the working pattern this would be agreed with the post holders.
