Purchasing Buyer
Location: Dewsbury, West Yorkshire
Working Hours: Full-time, 08:00 – 16:00, Monday to Friday
Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Our client is a fast-growing dust & fume extraction company based in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. As a forward-thinking business with an expanding customer base, they are looking to add a Purchasing Buyer to streamline ordering processes and support continued growth.
The Buyer will be responsible for sourcing materials, parts and services to ensure smooth business operations. This hands-on role involves placing purchase orders, managing suppliers, controlling costs, and ensuring goods are delivered on time and to the required quality standards.
Working closely with contracts, stores, and accounts, the successful candidate will report directly to the General Manager.
The Role
Purchasing & Ordering
• Raise purchase orders for materials, components, consumables and services
• Ensure orders are placed on time to meet production and business needs
• Track open orders and follow up with suppliers on delivery dates
• Resolve late deliveries, shortages and order discrepancies
Supplier Management
• Manage day-to-day communication with suppliers via email and phone
• Request and compare quotes to ensure the best value
• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
• Escalate supplier performance issues when required
Cost Control & Records
• Maintain accurate pricing, supplier and order records
• Check order confirmations against purchase orders
• Monitor price changes to support cost control
• Work with accounts to resolve invoice queries
Stock & Operations Support
• Liaise with stores and production teams on stock levels
• Help reduce shortages, over-ordering and excess stock
• Support the continuous improvement of purchasing processes
Compliance & Systems
• Follow the company's purchasing procedures and approval controls
• Ensure purchasing records are audit-ready
• Accurately use ERP/purchasing systems and Microsoft Excel
Requirements
Essential
• Previous experience in a Buyer or Purchasing role
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Confident dealing with suppliers
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable using ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
• Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
Desirable:
• Experience within manufacturing, engineering or technical supply chains
• Understanding of stock control and lead times
• CIPS qualification or working towards it
• Industry experience would be preferred, but training can be provided
