You will be able to find a full Job description and Person Specification attached within the supporting documents or please click Apply now to view in Trac The workload will be split between: Equipment Quality Assurance (approximately 30%) Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine (approximately 15%) Quality Improvement for Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine (approximately 15%) Ensuring Regulatory Compliance (approximately 20%) Image Processing (approximately 10%) Teaching and Training (approximately 10%) Planning and Design Participates in planning and design of new DXA, nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures Participates in planning and design of new equipment quality control procedures Improvement and Monitoring Writes and develops Standard Operating Procedures for the Nuclear Medicine service. Interprets legislation and national professional guidelines for this specialist area. Translates the results of research findings into service improvements. Participates in the implementation of recommendations from both internal and external audits Participates in or initiates developments of the service, in response to legislative and regulatory changes, evolving consensus of good practice and the availability of new diagnostic tests and treatments. Communications Maintains excellent lines of communication with service users, referrers, practitioners, operators and administrators, both from within and outside the organisation, to ensure a high standard of service for patients Engages with patients to ensure their understanding of and compliance with the diagnostic or therapeutic process to be undertaken Provides radiation protection advice to hospital staff, community care staff, patients and family members. Prepares and presents scientific and technical information at scientific and multidisciplinary meetings and conferences. Disseminates learning from attendances at conferences and seminars Participates in the wider educational responsibilities of the Department, including teaching groups such as nurses and ambulance drivers about radiation protection and new regulations. Clinical and Technical 1. Participates in the delivery of the quality assurance program for specialist DXA &nuclear medicine equipment across South East Wales. Carries out radiation risk assessments and takes responsibility for the administration of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals to patients Takes responsibility for the release of radioactive inpatients and the hand-over of the treatment room for routine clinical use after decontamination. Uses highly complex image processing software to reconstruct planar images and to generate quantitative data from a range of diagnostic scans. Interprets processed data and writes detailed reports describing the results of diagnostic investigations, under a protocol and with guidance from senior Nuclear Medicine staff. Uses a gamma camera for patient scanning, ensuring careful positioning of the gantry, couch and patient to maintain image quality. Performing diagnostic bone densitometry and body composition measurements on children and adults (some of whom are frail and elderly) using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry, including scan acquisition and analysis and preparation of scans for reporting Acts as a trained Operator under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017, as amended Justifies Nuclear Medicine referrals in accordance with Delegated Authorisation guidelines from the ARSAC Licence Holder. Prepares radioactive test samples for equipment quality control purposes. Transports radioactive materials between hospital sites in accordance with Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regulations. 12. Travels to other centres (within South East Wales) to provide scientific support to Nuclear Medicine services in those centres. Assists and provides advice in case of a radiation incident or emergency in South East Wales (NAIR schemes). Assists in the application and management of employer and practitioner ARSAC licences, as required by the patient safety regulations Ensures DXA & nuclear medicine physics devices comply with the medical device regulations Finance and Budget Orders small pieces of equipment with approval from the budget holder Management, Leadership and Training Continues personal development through further study, projects, participation in scientific meetings etc. Takes part in the IPEM CPD scheme. Participates in the supervision and training of clinical, technical and scientific staff. Investigates reported errors, deviations and near-misses Digital and Information Ensures the consistency and quality of diagnostic test results by developing and improving computer based data analysis methods. Maintains accurate records of patient related data on Radiology Information System Maintains accurate records of radioactivity locations, administrations, storage and disposals on the Radioactivity Management System Participates in the development of the Quality Management System Research Development. Evaluation & Audit Participates in the scientific development of the Nuclear Medicine service. Participates in the supervision of research or technical projects undertaken by Medical Physics students and trainee Clinical Scientists. Collaborates in programmes of research and development commensurate with the achievement of clinical objectives. Participates in internal audits and inspections
