Trust Responsibilities To be part of the Pharmacy team and work to enable the objectives of the Pharmacy and the Trust to be achieved. To contribute to Trust compliance with medicines safety and optimisation, Clinical Governance and Risk Management agendas. Professional Responsibilities To be accountable for providing a high standard of service provision and customer service. Clinical Practice To respond to common clinical conditions and minor ailments described by patients using the WWHAM mnemonic, recommending suitable over-the-counter (OTC) products and providing advice on their correct use. This will include consideration of danger symptoms and referring to the Responsible Pharmacist (RP) or other healthcare professionals and providing information on non-drug management of the condition to avoid recurrence. To promote and respond to queries from patients and staff around additional services provided by the outpatient pharmacy, signposting patients to other healthcare providers where appropriate. Staff training and development To train and supervise other pharmacy staff working in the reception area including Pre-Registration Technicians and Trainee Pharmacists. To contribute to the induction of new staff. Operational Responsibilities To serve patients and staff politely and efficiently, responding to their needs and referring to the RP or Outpatient Pharmacy technician appropriately. To receive outpatient prescriptions at the pharmacy reception, ensuring details are legible and complete this involves confirming patient and clinic details, checking the prescription is complete in terms of legality and confirming the medication history and allergy status of the patient. Medicines Management To be responsible for the replenishment of stock and consumables in the outpatient pharmacy to include frequent transportation from the main pharmacy and storing in the outpatient pharmacy. To carry out regular stock checks and maintain appropriate stock levels. Financial To collect appropriate prescription fees (card and cash payments) or completing exemption declaration forms and assisting patients to determine their prescription charge exemption. To take card and cash payments for OTC medicine sales. Communication To take responsibility to acknowledge staff and visitors attending the outpatient pharmacy promptly. To communicate effectively and promptly with all members of the pharmacy teams, staff, and visitors to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of outpatient pharmaceutical services. Discussions may be challenging or distressing in nature at times, and communication difficulties may need to be overcome with changes in communication style. Confidentiality To respect and maintain the privacy of all information given to and/or held within the outpatient pharmacy. Quality & Safety To support the implementation of outpatient service improvements in conjunction with the outpatient pharmacy team. Work with the Outpatient Pharmacy Technician to conduct regular customer surveys to measure staff and visitor satisfaction. Personal & Professional Development To hold or undertake a NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills. To hold or undertake a GPhC-accredited Medicines Counter Assistant course. Governance To demonstrate good product knowledge and to comply with protocols and guidelines regarding the sale of OTC and Pharmacy only medicines. To follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain all relevant records according to departmental and legal requirements. Please refer to the Job Description for further details
