We're looking for a Catering Assistant who will deliver excellent service standards, while meeting SLA agreements and adhering to cleaning schedules.

Role OverviewThis role supports the delivery of a safe, high‑quality patient catering service within a hospital environment. You will assist with meal preparation and service, work closely with ward teams, and ensure patient needs are met with care, dignity, and accuracy.
Key ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for supporting patient meal services at ward level, including serving meals in correct portions and following dietary, allergen, and Trust procedures. The role involves using a patient meal‑ordering tablet to accurately record and manage orders, working in cold conditions within the RDU preparation kitchen, and assisting with meal preparation, plating, and distribution. You will also be expected to clean patient catering areas and equipment daily, in line with Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Infection Control standards, and to communicate effectively with patients, ward staff, managers, and colleagues to ensure a smooth and compassionate service.
What We're Looking ForWe are looking for someone with a caring, patient‑focused approach who can work both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience in patient or healthcare catering is desirable, but not essential, as training will be provided. You should be comfortable using digital devices such as tablets, able to work in cold environments, and have good numeracy, literacy, and communication skills. Reliability, organisation, adaptability, and good time management are important for this role.
