What skills and experience we're looking for
This is a very exciting time to join our Art department, which contributes to the broad curriculum within a values driven college. All students study Art at Key Stage 3, and both GCSE Art and GCSE Photography are very popular and successful option courses. If appointed, you would join a team of specialist teachers who are all passionate about the importance of Art and Photography and fully committed to ensuring students leave with the best possible outcomes whilst engaging with and enjoying their learning. The successful candidate must be able to teach Art at Key Stage 3 and at GCSE. The ability to also teach Design Technology at Key Stage 3 would be an advantage.
At Horizon, an Art teacher must be someone with a fierce love for their subject, who is talented, motivated and can inspire students to achieve their full potential. As part of this dynamic and successful team, you must be driven to achieve the highest standards and possess the creativity to maximise the use of our state-of-the-art resources and facilities.
What the school offers its staff
Horizon has a whole-hearted commitment to professional learning that places individual development at the heart of its ethos. The College provides an excellent in-house training programme of Continuing Professional Development for Early Career Teachers and beyond, enabling staff to benefit from excellent opportunities to enhance their practice and realise their career potential
Horizon is committed to ensuring and promoting the wellbeing and professional support of all staff under its care; the College has Silver status for the Be Well@Work award. At Horizon, just like students, staff are supported to reach their highest potential.
The college offers the following benefits to its staff in addition to competitive salaries:
• A school that is the ‘cornerstone of the local area’, where ‘pupils’ behaviour in lessons is excellent’ and where ‘staff are exceptionally proud to work’ (Ofsted, Oct ‘23).
• A commitment to Family First; we believe that for our staff, their family comes first.
• A comprehensive staff wellbeing offer including Level 1 Westfield Benefits and Services for all staff and access to the School Advisory Service (SAS) app which provides a premium package of wellbeing support.
• Other wellbeing offers for staff such as access to HR wellbeing guidance, Staff Workplace Health Champions and dedicated Mental Health Leads; staff workload charter; flu vaccinations; fitness suite on site and other wellbeing activities for staff.
• Flexible start times (either 8:30-3.00 or 8:50 - 3:20).
• Lower than average teaching contact time per fortnight.
• A dedication to "grow our own"; we have a vast array of career progression opportunities.
• A culture of kindness communicated through our daily actions and work with the community.
• A school where Teachers Teach, Leaders Lead.
• A centralised detention system.
• Comprehensive CPD for all staff designed to RAISE standards, including 1:1 coaching and support for teachers of all career stages and 1-hour CPD every Tuesday afternoon.
• Access to state-of-art facilities: all teachers receive an iPad 10, keyboard and stylus.
• Excellent public transport and motorway links to Barnsley from Leeds, Wakefield, Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham.
• Access to Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
• Free access to Lifetime Financial Management services.
• Access to a range of employee benefits from our health and wellbeing partner, Vivup.
• Consistent pay day; all staff are paid on the 15th of every month.
• Dedicated support teams.
Commitment to safeguarding
The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. It is an offence to apply for a role in a school and/or working with children if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. Online searches will be carried out for all shortlisted candidates. This includes a search on the world wide web and relevant social media sites.
