What skills and experience we're looking for
Required for 1 September 2026, the Trustees are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and qualified teacher to become Lead Teacher of Sociology. Sociology is taught in KS5 but you will also contribute to the delivery of RE across KS3-4. In particular the School requires a teacher who is as passionate about delivering high-quality teaching as they are about their subject.
Sociology is taught exclusively in KS5 and it is popular and highly successful. RE is an option at GCSE and is also taught as ‘core’ to all students. The role of Lead Teacher of Sociology is suitable either for a colleague who is already an experienced leader or someone for whom subject leadership will be new and we will be able to support in your career development.
The successful candidate should be able to deliver excellence in the classroom, providing innovative and inspirational teaching and learning
What the school offers its staff
The School is committed to excellence in professional development and an extensive well-being programme is in place with many benefits including reduced gym membership at CCCU, event afternoons throughout the year and other benefits offered by BCAT and Kent Rewards.
Commitment to safeguarding
In line with KCSIE 2022 guidance, part of the shortlisting process, the Trust reserves the right to conduct an online search on shortlisted candidates as part of our due diligence and any relevant information found concerning a candidate's suitability to work with children will be discussed at interview stage. Barton Court Grammar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application via the Disclosure & Barring Service and check against the ISA Barred List for Children.
