- Prepare pipe sections by cleaning, cutting, and positioning for proper fusion.
- Operate fusion welding equipment and ensure correct temperature, pressure, and timing.
- Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and utility layouts.
- Inspect welds and joints to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Conduct pressure testing and assist with system commissioning.
- Maintain tools, machinery, and welding equipment.
- Follow trench safety, confined space, and site safety regulations at all times.
- Work closely with site supervisors, machine operators, and ground crews.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience as a pipelayer, fusion welder, or in pipeline construction.
- Certification in fusion welding (e.g., HDPE butt fusion/electrofusion) preferred.
- Strong understanding of pipeline installation methods and materials.
- Ability to read construction drawings and utility schematics.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices, especially trenching and excavation safety.
- Good physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in water, gas, or utility infrastructure projects.
- CPCS/NPORS or equivalent plant operation certifications (for UK roles).
- Confined space or first aid certification.
