Salary: £14,768
We are recruiting a Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our Facilities Management team at HMP Durham.
You’ll work 3 full days per week (07:30–16:00) – ideally Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with flexibility to agree days.
What you’ll typically be doing:
Grass cutting, hedge trimming, weed control and general grounds upkeep
Planting, pruning, seeding and basic tree care
Leaf, litter and verge clearance
Setting out and maintaining sports pitches
Drainage works and equipment painting
Using light plant, power tools and garden machinery
What we’re looking for:
Experience in grounds maintenance, gardening or horticulture
Understanding of health & safety
Comfortable working in a prison environment
Spraying certification (or willingness to be trained)
Full UK driving licence – desirable
Prison security clearance (incl. Standard DBS) is required – full support provided by Amey.
