Job Title: ALN Teaching Assistant / SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Newport
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Pay: From £14.25 per hour
Start Date: Immediate Start
We are currently recruiting for an ALN Teaching Assistant job in Newport on behalf of a partnership school. This is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant in Newport, SEN Teaching Assistant, or Autism Support Worker looking for a rewarding school-based role.
The successful candidate will support pupils within the school's Learning Resource Base (LRB). The class consists of children with severe Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), with some pupils displaying behavioural challenges. We are looking for a resilient, patient and compassionate individual who can make a positive difference every day.
Key Responsibilities - ALN Teaching Assistant Newport
- Support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) in a small specialist class
- Assist children with Autism (ASD) and behavioural needs
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
- Provide emotional, social and educational support
- Help create a safe, caring and structured learning environment
- Work closely with Teachers and other Teaching Assistants
- Adapt support strategies to meet individual pupil needs
- Follow school safeguarding and behaviour policies
Requirements
To be considered for this Teaching Assistant vacancy in Newport, you will need:
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
- Child Only DBS on the Update Service
- Two professional references covering the last 24 months
- Confidence managing challenging behaviour
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Experience Needed
Experience working in SEN schools, ALN classrooms, care work, support work, or with children with additional needs is desirable. However, we also welcome applicants with personal experience of supporting children with SEN/ ALN or those eager to train and develop in this area.
