The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our People Department as a Wellbeing Advisor, playing a pivotal role in delivering Northumbria Police’s strategic approach to wellbeing, inclusion, and colleague experience.

This is a highly influential role focused on shaping organisational culture and embedding best practice across the Force. You will lead on the design, delivery and evaluation of evidence‑based wellbeing initiatives, ensuring alignment with national guidance, organisational priorities and legislative requirements.

The role does not provide one‑to‑one wellbeing support. Instead, it focuses on proactive, preventative activity, workforce insight, peer support models, colleague networks and organisational learning. You will work closely with senior leaders, support associations and key internal and external stakeholders to improve workforce experience and resilience.

You will also deputise for senior wellbeing leaders where required, contributing to the wider strategic leadership of wellbeing activity.

What you’ll do

Lead the development, delivery and evaluation of force‑wide wellbeing initiatives, including peer support models, health promotion activity and wellbeing campaigns, ensuring alignment with national best practice and guidance.
Work collaboratively with staff associations, support networks, peer supporters and national partners to enhance the organisation’s wellbeing offer.
Act as a subject matter expert, advising senior leaders and stakeholders on wellbeing priorities and proactive, preventative approaches.
Provide effective line management to the wellbeing co-ordinator, through strong leadership, support and development.
Deputise for the Wellbeing Manager where required, supporting the leadership and continuity of service delivery.
Horizon scan, analyse and interpret data and insight, producing clear written reports and evidence based recommendations to inform decision making and continuous improvement.

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, horizon scan and present evidence based recommendations to a range of audiences.
Experience working within governance frameworks, producing reports and demonstrating outcomes.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously.
Experience of managing projects, programmes of work and, ideally, leading or developing others.
Highly effective communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence, challenge constructively and engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
