Care Support Worker (BSL / Deaf‑Aware) – Charles Harper House
Charles Harper House is a small supported housing service providing personalised, one‑to‑one support to adults with learning disabilities and sensory impairments, including people who are Deaf and use British Sign Language (BSL). The service includes eight self‑contained flats within a communal building, shared indoor spaces and a garden.
We’re looking for caring, flexible and resilient Care Support Workers who are confident working 1:1 and supporting people with a range of needs. This role has a strong BSL and Deaf‑awareness focus, and we welcome applications from people with existing BSL skills as well as those who are keen to continue developing them.
You’ll support individuals with daily routines, personal care where required and meaningful activities, while promoting independence, choice and confidence. A key part of the role involves communicating effectively with Deaf customers, including using signed BSL where appropriate. You’ll also help maintain safe and welcoming homes, build positive relationships with colleagues and professionals, and complete accurate records.
This is a part‑time role working 22.5 hours per week, delivered across a 24/7 rota, including day, evening, weekend, bank holiday and occasional sleep‑in shifts.
Flexibility is essential to meet the needs of the people we support.
Ideally, you’ll have Level 2 BSL, but we also welcome applicants with practical BSL experience or Deaf awareness gained through work, volunteering or personal experience. A willingness to continue developing your BSL skills is essential, and a Level 1 BSL training cohort is planned. Previous care or support experience is helpful but not required, as full training will be provided. A satisfactory DBS check is required.
If you’re passionate about supporting people to live independently and confidently, we’d love to hear from you. To apply, please submit an anonymised CV and a short supporting statement outlining your interest in the role and any relevant experience, including BSL skills or Deaf awareness.
Interviews will take place on Wednesday 27 May 2026. For questions, contact Jo Shorey, Talent Specialist, at jo.shorey@peabody.org.uk. We may close this vacancy early if sufficient applications are received.
