Are you ready to make a significant impact in maintaining the integrity of our police service? As a Professional Standards Investigator (PIP2), you'll provide a professional and effective investigative service for serious and complex complaints, misconduct, and criminal investigations. You'll ensure that all evidence is meticulously recorded, secured, and preserved, maintaining public and police confidence. Your role will involve developing high-quality evidential files that stand up to scrutiny and contribute to misconduct proceedings and criminal justice trials. What you’ll do



Collect and gather material and assess intelligence and evidence from a range of sources that are appropriate to the serious and complex nature of the investigation and retain and maintain records in a format that is evidentially admissible to support both the professional standards and criminal investigative process.
Develop and manage investigative plans and identify own investigative actions required and consider resources, priorities, and proportionality to achieve investigatory objectives, working with the minimum of supervision and taking key roles in more complex investigations.
Complete risk assessments, assess harm and provide appropriate updates and support for victims and subjects during an investigation, such as through formulation of a victim strategy where required, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the victim. Identify vulnerability to ensure appropriate measures are put in place to mitigate/manage the risks, support individuals as needed, collaborating with both internal and external partners to ensure the safety and wellbeing of victim.
Prepare and serve complaint and misconduct notices in compliance with the misconduct regulations so that involved parties are informed in a timely manner.
Interview witnesses and suspects, gather all required evidence and intelligence in relation to serious and complex professional standards investigations, to generate further lines of enquiry where required, to build a balanced and proportional proportionate case to bring offenders to justice.

What you’ll bring



Professional Investigation Programme (PIP) level 2 qualified
Experience in conducting serious and complex investigations.
Experienced in PACE interviewing.
A detailed understanding of the criminal justice system. Post holders undertaking this role will be required to undertake designated functions and will have associated powers conferred by the Chief Constable under the Police Reform Act 2002 (as amended by the Policing and Crime Act 2017).
Able to plan own work and multitask, as well as identify and mitigate risks to delivery.
Able to review own performance objectively and to take steps to maintain and enhance competence and professional standards appropriate to the role.
Demonstrable experience of complex information gathering and problem solving. Able to break down a complex problem into component parts and determine appropriate action in investigations.
Able to identify cause and effect when problem solving and develop a course of action designed to target root causes and mitigate risks.
