Rochdale Borough Council is seeking an experienced, motivated Team Manager to lead our Quality Assurance and Support Team within Children’s Social Care. This is a pivotal leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape practice, strengthen standards, and ultimately improve outcomes for children, young people and families across the borough.

About the role
As Team Manager, you will be accountable to the Head of Safeguarding and Quality Assurance and will provide strategic and operational leadership to the Quality Assurance and Support Team. You will play a key role in ensuring statutory responsibilities are met across children in need, child protection, looked after children and care leavers services.
You will:
- Lead, motivate and manage a specialist social work team to deliver effective quality assurance and practice improvement.
- Provide highquality reflective supervision, performance appraisal and professional development support.
- Lead and coordinate case file audits, supervision audits and performance clinics, using findings to drive service improvement.
- Design and deliver training and learning programmes, including support for NQSWs through the ASYE Academy.
- Produce clear, influential reports and communications that promote learning and best practice.
- Contribute to inspection readiness, improvement planning, Rapid Reviews and Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams, partner agencies, schools and community organisations.
- Manage delegated budgets and resources effectively, ensuring value for money and compliance with Council procedures.
- Deputise for senior managers and represent the service at multiagency and strategic forums as required.
What we’re looking for
A confident and experienced social work leader with strong professional credibility and a passion for quality practice.
Essential criteria includes:
- A recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England (HCPC legacy acceptable).
- Extensive experience working with children, young people and families in a statutory setting.
- Postqualification supervisory or management experience within a complex children’s services environment.
- Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989 & 2004, safeguarding legislation and current best practice.
- Proven ability to lead performance management and quality assurance frameworks.
- Excellent communication, analytical, reportwriting and leadership skills.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusive practice.
A relevant management qualification is desirable.
The successful candidate may be required to attend evening meetings and weekend conferences on occasions, as per the needs of the service. Travel within and outside the Borough will be required.
