Rochdale Local Authority is expanding its Virtual School team in response to national reforms and the extension of Virtual School statutory duties. We are therefore seeking to appoint a number of Education Support Officers to play a key role in improving educational outcomes for our most vulnerable children and young people aged 0-18.

Please note this is 2 fixed term contract.

These are new roles within the Virtual School, reflecting the increasing scope and significance of the service. The successful candidates will support the Virtual Headteacher and education advisory staff to deliver highquality practice for:

  • Cared for Children
  • Care Experinced Young Poeple
  • Previously Looked After Children
  • Children with a Social Worker
  • Children in Kinship Care

You will be part of a committed and valuesdriven team, working closely with schools, social care colleagues, carers, and partner agencies to ensure children’s educational needs are understood, championed, and effectively supported. For our Cared for Children, you will support with the ambition of high quality PEPs and use of PP+ funding through support, proffessional challenge and quality assurance. We are a fast paced and passionate team, who truely do beleive education has the power to transform lives for children and families.


We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable children and young people
  • Experienced in education, children’s services, or a related support role
  • Confident in working collaboratively with schools and multiagency professionals
  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities
  • Skilled in communication, recordkeeping, and use of digital systems
  • Knowledgeable about (or keen to develop understanding of) PEPs, Virtual School statutory duties, and the education landscape and planned reforms
  • Have a good understanding of the role of the Virtual School in championing the needs of children and young people

Experience of working with Cared for Children, children with a social worker, or within a local authority or school setting would be an advantage.
