Job Summary
The Activities Coordinator is responsible for designing and delivering person-centred activity programmes that support the wellbeing of residents living with dementia. The role focuses on creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment that promotes dignity, independence, memory stimulation, and emotional comfort.

Key Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver meaningful, dementia-friendly activities tailored to individual life histories, preferences, and abilities
• Provide both group and one-to-one sessions, particularly for residents with advanced dementia or limited mobility
• Use reminiscence therapy, sensory activities, music, and creative engagement to stimulate memory and reduce anxiety
• Adapt activities to meet changing cognitive and physical needs of residents
• Create a calm, structured daily routine to provide familiarity and reassurance
• Observe and respond to residents’ moods, behaviours, and emotional needs during activities
• Work closely with care staff to ensure a consistent, person-centred approach
• Involve families in activity planning and encourage their participation where appropriate
• Organise small-scale events and celebrations in a dementia-friendly way (avoiding overstimulation)
• Maintain accurate records of participation, preferences, and responses to activities
• Ensure a safe environment by following safeguarding, infection control, and health & safety procedures

Skills and Experience
• Experience working with individuals living with dementia (essential or highly desirable)
• Understanding of dementia care approaches such as person-centred care and validation techniques
• Strong communication skills, including non-verbal communication and active listening
• Patient, calm, and empathetic approach, especially in challenging situations
• Creative ability to adapt activities on the spot based on residents’ responses
• Ability to recognise and respond to distress, confusion, or behavioural changes

Qualifications
• Dementia care training (e.g. Dementia Awareness or similar)
• Safeguarding and first aid training (preferred)
