Are you an experienced Senior Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist or Healthcare Scientist looking to take the next step in your career? We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and supportive team at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This post provides the opportunity to undertake Higher Specialist Scientist Training (HSST), developing the competencies required for independent consultant‑level practice. The successful candidate will deliver advanced clinical care under supervision, contribute to service leadership and development, and play an active role in education, research and clinical governance, preparing them for future appointment as a Consultant Clinical Scientist.
Our multidisciplinary team of Healthcare Scientists, Physiologists, Practitioners, Assistants and Trainees delivers a wide range of routine and complex respiratory and sleep diagnostic and therapeutic services, including Physiologist/Scientist‑led CPAP and Sleep Clinics, supporting a large and diverse patient population.
We are looking for a self‑motivated, highly organised individual with excellent communication skills and a positive, approachable manner, who is passionate about delivering high‑quality patient care. The role involves flexible working across King’s Mill Hospital, Newark Hospital, and our Community Diagnostic Centre at Mansfield Community Hospital.
• Deliver highly specialised respiratory and sleep investigations, including interpretation, reporting, and provision of clinical advice to support diagnosis and treatment
• Monitor patient conditions during and following treatment, contributing to high standards of patient care, including within Healthcare Scientist–led clinics
• Work autonomously under pressure, managing and prioritising your own workload while contributing effectively to the wider team
• Support service development and leadership activities
• Supervise, mentor, and support the development of junior physiologists, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff
• Play a key role in the education, training, and competency assessment of junior healthcare professionals .
You will also be responsible for the safe use and management of complex and expensive equipment, contributing to protocols, calibration, quality control, and staff training.
We are an award-winning NHS Foundation Trust working alongside health and social care colleagues across the county to provide acute and community healthcare services to more than 420,000 people across Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood, and parts of Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.
We put the patient at the heart of everything that we do and it is our aim to make sure that every patient is treated as we would want a member of our own family to be treated. At the same time, we expect our staff to be caring, kind and courteous to each other and to look out for each other. We believe that we are truly a clinically-led organisation.
We are proud that our Trust colleagues have voted us the best acute Trust to work for in the East Midlands for seven years running in the National NHS Staff Survey, while the Care Quality Commission has rated our Trust as ‘outstanding’ for care and our King’s Mill Hospital as the only ‘outstanding’ NHS-run hospital in the East Midlands.
