Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs? We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Learning Mentor to join a supportive Alternative Provision setting in Newcastle.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of pupils who require additional support to engage with education and develop positive behaviours.
Location: Newcastle
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Temporary (until July 2026)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Pay Rate: £14.25 - £16.50 per hour (depending on experience)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students to promote engagement and wellbeing
- Support behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
- Assist in delivering tailored learning activities
- Encourage social skills, emotional regulation, and resilience
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals
Requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or additional needs
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Ability to build rapport and act as a positive role model
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, or similar) are desirable but not essential
