Are you a skilled and experienced Phlebotomist ready to take on a leadership role? Do you thrive working in both clinical and domiciliary settings? If so, we want to hear from you!

We are seeking a Senior Phlebotomist to join and support our Merseyside Team on a permanent basis. This role is ideal for someone with a proven track record in phlebotomy, exceptional leadership skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.

As a Senior Phlebotomist, you will:
1. Provide phlebotomy services across clinic venues and patients’ homes throughout the Merseyside area.
2. Take on a leadership role within the phlebotomy team, working closely with the Team Manager ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the service.
3. Support the ongoing development and quality improvement of our service.
4. Work flexible hours, between 07:00 and 19:00, Monday to Friday, with the potential for evening and weekend shifts as the service expands.
1. To excel in this role, you should:
1. Have substantial experience and competency as a Phlebotomist.
2. Possess strong leadership and organisational skills to manage and support a team.
3. Be flexible, proactive, and demonstrate a positive “can-do” attitude.
4. Be willing and able to travel for work purposes between clinic sites and patient homes.
5. Be committed to attending training sessions and team meetings to maintain and enhance service delivery.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Contribute to the provision of a high quality Merseyside Phlebotomy service.
2. Work with the Team Manager/peers to undertake workload planning, including rotas, taking into account competence levels.
3. Support the service to develop new ways of working to provide a responsive service to clients.
4. Support and empathise with clients, carers and families in time of need.
5. Support the service to develop and maintain multi-agency partnerships and joint working in line with the objectives.
6. Participate in the mentorship and assessment of a range of learners and in the preceptorship and support of new colleagues.
7. Maintain stock as required.

2. Provide leadership, mentorship and role modelling to support staff within the service and support the Team Manager in the day to day running of the service

LEADERSHIP REQUIREMENTS


1. Contribute to the development of policy and services to meet the needs of Liverpool Primary Care provider service defined group clients.
2. Provide leadership, mentorship and role modelling to support staff within the phlebotomy team.









CLINICAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES


1. Attend mandatory training, core training and training that will enhance practice
2. Provide support and knowledge to support staff as required.
3. Act as an advocate and champion for clients.
4. Work within guidelines to identify and manage risk, reporting identified risks to the Operational manager.
5. Work in collaboration with other agencies, according to Trust policy
6. Identify own needs and prioritise work appropriately.
7. Maintain appropriate records and returns, both written and computerised.
8. Liaise regularly with all stakeholders in the promotion of the phlebotomy service..







SERVICE DEVELOPMENT


1. Support the phlebotomy service in the implementation of practice development, improvement and service modernisation initiatives.
2. Develop skills and competencies as required, to provide effective care and support to client group.



RESEARCH AND AUDIT


1. Provide relevant data and information as requested in a timely manner.
2. Participate in audit as required by Mersey Care .



CLINICAL GOVERNANCE / QUALITY



1. Participate in individual clinical supervision.

2. Support the training and development of support staff



COMMUNICATION / RELATIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS



Work with other professional and statutory groups involved in care management to:
1. Communicate sensitive and complex information, concerning Safeguarding Adults.
2. Communicate sensitive and complex information to clients, carers, colleagues and other professionals where there may be barriers to understanding, utilising interpreting services and aids to communication where appropriate.
3. Establish robust communication channels both with the Phlebotomy team and other professionals and agencies.
4. Attend staff meetings, team meetings, working groups and focus groups as appropriate
5. Understand and work to ensure equality of opportunity and respect for diverse cultures and lifestyles.

Infection Prevention & Control

All staff have both a duty and responsibility to avoid and prevent the spread of infection as a consequence of any actions or activities they are carrying out during the course of their duties.

The post holder must:-
• Take all reasonable care to minimise the risk to service users, colleagues and members of the public (including themselves), of healthcare-associated infections.
• Co-operate with the Trust in ensuring that all statutory and mandatory requirements are complied with – in particular, compliance with the Health Act 2006: Code of Practice for the prevention and control of healthcare – associated infections.



Be knowledgeable of and compliant with, the Trust’s infection control policies and procedures, which include attendance at mandatory training.





Health and Safety


• All employees are responsible for taking reasonable care for their own health, safety and security and assist in maintaining a healthy, safe and secure working environment for everyone. They must not intentionally misuse or interfere with anything provided in the interests of health safety or welfare e.g. misuse of equipment. • The post holder will have responsibility for any staff that they manage or supervise to ensure they are adhering to all the required health, safety and security tasks as set out in their Job descriptions and report any risks to the relevant persons.
