Who are we looking for?
Totton College is looking for a technician to support our teaching staff by providing general technical and clerical assistance to the different curriculum areas in the college. You will ensure the smooth running of the curriculum areas by managing stock and equipment, setting up classrooms and practical activities, fixing equipment where possible, carrying out risk assessments, this is a varied role that supports teaching staff with their delivery.
You will work alongside teaching staff across the college such as supporting art and design, media, care, music, our pathways, and skills for life provision to name a few areas. As well as working with teaching staff, you may be required to work with learners too, such as helping learners use particular equipment or learn new skills. In addition, you will need to work as part of a team when preparing for internal and external events such as training, gigs, exhibitions, displays and community activities for staff and students.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Ensure the provision of products and materials are in good working order for teaching & learning purposes; this will include undertaking regular stock control to ensure the cost effective management
Make sure that teaching areas, office space and stores are kept safe, clean and well stocked with relevant materials where appropriate (disposing of waste as appropriate).
Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations affecting the curriculum areas and assist with risk assessment duties (including being responsible for the safe handling and storage of materials and tools).
Prepare materials for learners to work with, such as: cutting materials to size / shape ready for assembly.
Work with darkroom facilities such as mixing chemicals for developing photographs.
Promptly carry out general clerical and administrative duties.
Confirm material stock (including books, videos, equipment, uniform) are checked, catalogued, maintained and stored appropriately.
A loan system should be maintained where equipment is loaned to staff / learners.
The successful applicant will need to have knowledge and experience using software to order stock and equipment.
