Contract: Permanent

Location: Based in North Somerset

Hours: 45 hours per week; (Split shifts between 0600hrs and 1800hrs)

North Somerset Environment Company Ltd. (NSEC) works in partnership with North Somerset Council and delivers the following services:

Collecting recycling and waste from over 100,000 homes and commercial businesses across North Somerset and the wider area

Managing Household Waste Recycling Centres at Backwell, Portishead and Weston along with two Waste Transfer Stations in Weston.

Maintaining 1,100km of North Somerset highways including surface repairs, winter maintenance, gully management, drainage and kerbing repairs, signage and linemarking, and 24/7 emergency response services.

HGV Driver and mobile plant training, vehicle servicing and maintenance, event cleaning and other environmental and highway maintenance specialisms to commercial businesses

We are currently seeking an experienced and qualified Commercial Vehicle Technician to be part of its commercial maintenance team, responsible for the safe and effective maintenance of our high profile, front-line fleet. The role is based at our Weston super Mare workshop facility.

What you’ll be doing:

Maintain and repair vehicles, plant and equipment to DVSA and manufacturer standards.

Carry out inspections, testing prep and complete service documentation.

Respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults and arrange recovery or off-site support.

Promote safe working practices and ensure equipment is properly maintained.

Provide technical support and mentor apprentices.

Keep records accurate, the workshop organised and build good customer relationships.

Carry our preventative maintenance.

Perform necessary work to prepare vehicles for their MOT tests and ensure they comply with regulatory standards.

Diagnostics and Repairs - Utilise advanced diagnostic equipment and techniques to identify and resolve complex faults in vehicle systems, including auto-electrics and other complex systems.

The ideal candidate will have:

Apprenticeship trained inclusive of City & Guilds HGV parts 1,2,3 qualification or equivalent.

An LGV Class C / HGV Class 2 licence is desirable, but not essential.

Ability to work independently both safely and competently in a physically demanding role.

Proven experience of maintaining commercial vehicles to a high standard inclusive of servicing, repair and fault diagnosis.

Excellent understanding of vehicle and body electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, particularly in the waste management sector.
