Clinical: Principle responsibilities of the post holder are to work with the consultants in the day-to-day management of inpatients, outpatients, to assist, advise and supervise junior doctors and to perform administrative duties e.g. discharge summaries, clinic letter, arranging admissions and surgical procedures. The post holder is expected to take part in clinical audit. Research opportunities exist in the department, and successful candidate will be given the opportunity to participate in this. b) Daily Commitment: AM PM Monday Clinical Clinical Tuesday Clinical Clinical Wednesday Off post on call / clinical if not on call Tuesday Thursday Clinical Clinical Friday Departmental teaching Audit Clinical allocations can be daytime on call, theatre or clinics. On call: one night per week (Monday Thursday, 5 out of 9 weeks), Friday night (1 out of 9), weekend (1 out of 8) This timetable currently reflects the allocations for a clinical fellow who does not wish to perform research. If the post holder decides to pursue research some of the clinical time will be reallocated as research time. The timetable has to be flexible enough to allow short term changes to cover clinical commitments as required. All registrars are fully supervised and supported at all times. They are expected to: Participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care Supervise junior doctors ward work (including discharge letters) Conduct routine hand over ward rounds at 7.45am every morning & working ward rounds there-after as well as hand over to the on-call team every evening Organize and attend theatre lists in discussion with the consultant Attend outpatient clinics & dictate clinic letters Be responsible for patient transfers to and from other hospitals - they must give appropriate & relevant advice to assist in the patient transfer Take calls from GPs / other hospitals who wish to refer patients Take initiative to improve continuity & maintain patient care Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training
