Duration: 52 weeks
Work Pattern: 3 days office / 2 days remote
Overview
Southwark Council is seeking a Gateway Prevention Officer to support early intervention and prevention activity within Housing Services. The role focuses on assessing needs, preventing homelessness, and ensuring residents receive timely, accurate advice and support. You’ll work closely with internal teams, partners and residents to deliver effective case management and positive housing outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide early intervention and prevention support to residents at risk of homelessness
Deliver accurate housing advice, signposting and case management in line with legislation and policy
Assess needs, risks and vulnerabilities to determine appropriate prevention pathways
Work collaboratively with internal teams, external agencies and support providers
Maintain high‑quality case records, documentation and evidence for decision‑making
Support residents to access services, resolve issues and sustain accommodation
Contribute to service improvement, data reporting and project‑based activity
Uphold Southwark’s values, ensuring inclusive, resident‑centred practice
About You
Experience in housing, homelessness prevention, support work or similar frontline services
Strong assessment, communication and problem‑solving skills
Ability to manage a varied caseload and work to statutory timescales
Confident working with vulnerable residents and complex situations
Strong partnership working skills across agencies and services
Organised, proactive and able to work independently
