Location: New Road, Grays, Essex, RM17 6SL
Rate: £24.48 PAYE / £32.66 Umbrella (per hour)
Hours: 37 per week (Mon–Thu 9–5:30, Fri 9–4:30)

Overview
Thurrock Council is seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner to join the Children with Disabilities Team within Safeguarding. You’ll lead on complex assessments, safeguarding activity, and multi‑agency planning to support children and young people with disabilities to achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Complete statutory assessments under the Children Act 1989 and Children & Families Act 2014

Assess needs, risks, strengths, and required services for children with disabilities and their families

Develop and review Child in Need plans, short breaks packages, and contribute to EHCP processes

Lead safeguarding activity, including CP enquiries, reports, conferences, and core groups

Undertake direct work using communication methods suited to children’s needs

Support parents/carers with guidance, interventions, and practical support

Coordinate multi‑agency packages with health, education, housing, and voluntary partners

Manage a varied caseload and maintain high‑quality, timely case records

Prepare analytical reports for panels, meetings, and court; attend court when required

Maintain SWE standards, engage in CPD, supervision, and service development

About You
Qualified Social Worker with SWE registration

Strong experience in assessment, care planning, and safeguarding

Skilled in communicating with children with additional needs

Excellent analytical, organisational, and report‑writing ability

Resilient, empathetic, and confident managing complex cases

Desirable: experience in CWD services, SEND/EHCP processes, autism/LD training

Additional Requirements
Enhanced DBS

Ability to travel locally

Flexibility for occasional out‑of‑hours work
