We are excited to offer a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated senior doctor in training (above ST4 or equivalent) with an interest in leadership, management and quality improvement to join Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as our next Chief Registrar.

The Chief Registrar role provides senior Resident Doctors with 40-50% dedicated time to develop skills and confidence in leadership, management and quality improvement. Learning gained by Chief Registrars from the Royal College of Physicians’ (RCP’s) bespoke development programme will be put into practice in a supported environment that provides autonomy, flexibility and support to develop and support projects that address key local challenges and priorities. These could include service improvement, engagement, improving morale, education and training, workforce, and sustainability. If you are a self-starter, are great to work with, have excellent organisational and communication skills, we want to hear from you!

The Chief Registrar will be mentored by a senior clinical leader within the organisation and gain a unique insight into NHS leadership and management processes, as well as deeper knowledge of NHS structures and stakeholders.

The role holder will be expected to attend modules delivered as part of the RCP’s bespoke development programme, which will cover, for example, change management, team culture and development, quality improvement, leadership, influencing and personal resilience.
• Key recruitment criteria

• Open to all physician and non-physician specialties
• For doctors who are at ST4+ or equivalent
• Doctors in training must have 40–50% of their time protected for Chief Registrar activities
• The role may be carried out in programme or out of programme (training or experience).
• Doctors will have full GMC registration.

This is a fixed-term role for minimum of 12 months.

For those with an NTN, the role can be undertaken in programme or out of programme (training or experience) and must be discussed with your educational supervisor and training programme director (TPD), and permission to apply must be granted by the TPD.

The Chief Registrar will work closely with the Chief Medical Officer/ Deputy Chief Medical Officer, and with the Director of Postgraduate Medical Education/Medical Education Department.

We are an award-winning NHS Foundation Trust working alongside health and social care colleagues across the county to provide acute and community healthcare services to more than 420,000 people across Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood, and parts of Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.

We put the patient at the heart of everything that we do and it is our aim to make sure that every patient is treated as we would want a member of our own family to be treated. At the same time, we expect our staff to be caring, kind and courteous to each other and to look out for each other. We believe that we are truly a clinically-led organisation.

We are proud that our Trust colleagues have voted us the best acute Trust to work for in the East Midlands for seven years running in the National NHS Staff Survey, while the Care Quality Commission has rated our Trust as ‘outstanding’ for care and our King’s Mill Hospital as the only ‘outstanding’ NHS-run hospital in the East Midlands.

The Chief Registrar role will suit trainees who:
• Want to learn about leadership and gain senior leadership experience
• Are comfortable working in uncertain environments and across traditional boundaries
• Relish the opportunity to develop their own ideas and initiatives
• Are committed to and passionate about improving the NHS
