Work Pattern: Hybrid – minimum 2 days in office; full week in office on duty week
Overview
Central Bedfordshire Council is seeking experienced Children & Families Social Workers to join the Family Help team. You’ll support children from assessment onwards, building meaningful relationships and delivering high‑quality interventions that improve outcomes and reduce the need for statutory care.
The Council is a Good and award‑winning authority, aiming to progress to Outstanding, with a strong focus on early, effective support through its Families First model.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a varied caseload, completing direct work with children to understand their lived experiences
Undertake assessments, child protection work, CIN planning and court‑related tasks
Chair multi‑agency meetings and work collaboratively with partners to safeguard children
Produce high‑quality assessments, reports and written evidence
Deliver impactful interventions that support positive change for children and families
Engage families early to reduce escalation and prevent children entering care
Apply social work theories and models to inform practice and decision‑making
Maintain accurate, timely case records and ensure statutory compliance
Contribute to the development of high‑quality, ambitious practice within Family Help
About You
Qualified Social Worker with 5+ years post‑qualifying experience
Strong safeguarding, assessment and risk‑management skills
Confident working across CIN, CP and court work
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Proven ability to achieve positive outcomes for children and families
Court experience is essential
