Job Purpose
Provide an Orthodontic service implementing care plans and performing orthodontic procedures to a written prescription within scope of practice.
Provide a contribution to the clinical management of patients requiring orthodontic treatment working in collaboration with Orthodontic Consultants and multidisciplinary professionals in order to improve patient care.
Facilitate and participate in audit and quality assurance programme, and promote evidence based practice.
Responsible for the teaching, mentoring and assessment of student dental nurses and professional staff therefore promoting a learning culture.

Communication and Relationship Skills:
· Communicate in a timely and courteous manner with all grades of staff, patients and their relatives/carers.
· Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive information requiring tact and persuasive skills, where there may be barriers to acceptance which need to be overcome using developed interpersonal communication skill such as would be required in communicating bad news.
· To contribute to the development of a learning environment.
· To make effective use of appropriate learning opportunities for themselves and others and apply learning to practice and future developments.
· To ensure essential information on the patient’s condition and progress is recorded by self and team members appropriately according to GDC guidelines.
· Establishes clear, positive and credible leadership within the clinical team, promotes and supports the maintenance of a cohesive multi-disciplinary and multi-organisational team.
· Assists in the development of clinical policies, protocols and clinical pathways and evaluates the patient outcomes.
· Liaise with other departments where necessary.
· Inform patients on the appropriate care and maintenance of their appliances.
· Communicate the risks and benefits of orthodontics to the patient and their carers
· Communicate the treatment plan to the patient, their carers and to the wider dental team as nessecary
· The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and health service business in accordance with the Trust’s confidentiality policy and the Data Protection Act.
· Communicate across organisational barriers where required.
· Support the Trust’s internal audit service in the area of Orthodontics.
