These flexible opportunities are ideal for support staff who enjoy variety and want to make a positive impact across different school settings. You will be supporting pupils in Haringey and the surrounding areas, helping them develop emotional resilience, confidence, and positive learning behaviours.
Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs
- Assist teachers in delivering adapted and accessible learning activities
- Help implement personalised behaviour support plans and regulation strategies
- Promote positive communication, resilience, and constructive relationships
- Support pupils in managing challenging behaviours in line with school policies
- Encourage participation, independence, and self-esteem
- Monitor pupil progress and share observations with teaching staff
- Contribute to wider school routines during longer-term placements
- Previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs
- Strong understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Adaptable across different key stages and learning environments
- Professional, reliable, and proactive
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
