We are looking for a compassionate and emotionally intelligent Personal Assistant to support a 54-year-old man living with a range of mental and physical health conditions. This is a deeply rewarding role for someone who values empathy, patience, and building a trusting, respectful relationship.

The gentleman you will be supporting lives with PTSD, depression, and anxiety. At times, he may feel overwhelmed or triggered, particularly if he perceives interactions as dismissive or patronising. In these moments, he may present as frustrated or reactive, but he is not a risk to others and simply benefits from space, understanding, and a calm approach. A gentle, reassuring manner and the ability to de-escalate situations with kindness are essential qualities for this role.

He also experiences cognitive challenges such as brain fog, which means he requires consistent support with day-to-day administration. This includes making phone calls, organising appointments, managing prescriptions, and handling letters and general correspondence. As anxiety can make self-advocacy difficult for him, you will play an important role in advocating on his behalf when needed, ensuring his voice is heard and his needs are met.

Physically, he lives with fibromyalgia, arthritis, and chronic back pain, which significantly impact his mobility, energy levels, and sleep. His routine typically begins later in the day due to disrupted sleep, so your support will involve assisting him with his morning routine after 1pm, including personal care and getting ready for the day in a way that is paced and respectful of his pain levels.

This role may also involve acting as his representative in situations where external services are unavailable, so confidence in communication and a supportive, proactive mindset are important. You should be comfortable working in a home environment that includes one very friendly and affectionate dog, as well as three cats.

It is also important to be aware that he uses prescribed medical cannabis as part of his treatment plan. A professional, non-judgemental attitude toward this is essential.

This position would suit someone who is calm under pressure, naturally caring, and able to balance practical support with emotional understanding. You will be making a genuine difference in someone’s quality of life by helping them maintain independence, dignity, and stability.

If you are someone who leads with kindness, respects personal boundaries, and understands the importance of trust, this could be a truly meaningful opportunity.

Candidate qualities:
- Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
- Reliable with good timekeeping
- Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
- Hygienic, tidy and well organised
- Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
- Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
