To provide assistant and chaperone support within the Ultrasound rooms located in Derriford Hospital including Orthopaedic clinic and in any of our off site locations such as Plymouth Community Diagnostic Centre, Cumberland Centre and any locations in future developments; being willing to help across adjacent rooms when required. To bring patients to and from the ultrasound scan room, assessing patients mobility appropriately and assist with undressing and dressing if necessary. This includes using manual handling skills and mechanical aids when appropriate. To assist the ultrasound practitioner and aid smooth running of the ultrasound session. To ensure each ultrasound room is set up appropriately, with correct stock for the clinical session according to the type of examinations booked and have an awareness of how the room should be set up for the next session. To acquire necessary skills to prepare an aseptic (ANTT) trolley and assist with ultrasound procedures such as musculoskeletal (MSK) injections, fine needle aspirations (FNAs), biopsies and contrast ultrasound studies etc. To be familiar with ultrasound scans, be able to explain them to patients of all ages and abilities, their carers and relatives whilst providing support for anxious, emotional, frightened and terminally ill patients of all ages and their relatives. Any concerns must be reported to the ultrasound practitioner. To be Ultrasound Inpatient Coordinator and assess the details on CRIS for clinical urgency of the inpatient, communicate with the inpatient wards and input the tasks in the portering system, Synbiotix. To have computer and keyboard skills to accurately enter patient information on to the computer system (CRIS) ensuring that data/alarms held are correct. To assess any infection risks and use necessary precautions. There may be on occasional contacts with bodily fluids. To be competent in infection control issues concerning medical equipment in all areas of imaging. To have an awareness of infection control procedures applicable to ultrasound service and appropriate method to clean and disinfect the ultrasound equipment, including using Trophon.
