Waste Decommissioning Technician

Location: Didcot
Contract Duration: 12 months
Working Pattern: Monday - Thursday, 9.25 hours per day (37 hours per week)
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Working Arrangement: Full-time, onsite

Overview

We are recruiting Waste Decommissioning Technicians to support a major project involving the handling and processing of large concrete waste boxes. This is a hands-on role within a controlled industrial/nuclear environment, requiring a strong focus on health & safety, teamwork, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out Point of Work Safety Assessments (POWSA) and identify hazards

  • Support waste management activities including packaging, transport, and storage

  • Operate cranes, forklift trucks (training provided if required), and rigging equipment

  • Move and manage waste containers and materials across site

  • Perform basic maintenance and support waste processing operations

  • Monitor plant and equipment within competence (Health Physics duties)

  • Maintain accurate records (e.g. logging number of boxes received)

  • Contribute to team operations and continuous improvement

  • Support site emergency arrangements if required

  • Ensure compliance with all HSEQ policies and procedures

Essential Requirements

  • Crane driver certification

  • Experience working in an industrial environment

  • Strong understanding of health & safety procedures

  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Forklift truck experience (training can be provided)

  • Experience in waste management or industrial waste
