Summary

About the role

We are looking for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our UKCS Living Places business, working from our Pode Hole depot as part of the Lincolnshire Highways Maintenance Team. This is a hands‑on operational role where you will help maintain, improve and keep the local highway network safe for road users and communities. You’ll be involved in a wide variety of planned, reactive and emergency maintenance activities and play a key role in delivering a high‑quality highways service.

What you'll be doing

  • Carrying out a wide range of highways maintenance activities across the network, including routine and cyclical maintenance, minor civils works and permanent and temporary repairs
  • Responding to reactive and emergency call‑outs, including out‑of‑hours work when required, to keep the highway safe and operational
  • Supporting winter service activities such as gritting, snow clearance and severe weather response
  • Operating plant, machinery and tools safely and efficiently, ensuring the correct equipment and materials are used for each task
  • Completing all work in line with health, safety and quality standards, fully embracing our Zero Harm culture and following the 4 Golden Rules
  • Reporting near misses, unsafe conditions and good practice to support continuous improvement
  • Receiving and closing jobs through handheld devices, accurately recording progress and completion details
  • Selecting the most effective working methods to deliver work right first time, on programme and within budget
  • Contributing to the efficient use of time, materials and resources to support contract performance
  • Delivering a professional and courteous service to members of the public and stakeholders while working on the highway

Who we're looking for

Desirable experience includes:

  • Highway maintenance and civils activities such as pothole repairs, drainage, kerbing, concreting and ironwork
  • Winter service operations and traffic management
  • Operation of small plant and powered tools
  • A full UK driving licence with highway network experience

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Class 2 (Category C) HGV licence
  • NRSWA, CSCS and Lantra T1/T2 (or equivalent)
  • Driver CPC and First Aid
  • Additional tickets such as Manual Handling, Banksman, Telehandler, Abrasive Wheels or Chainsaw
