Summary

As Sophie is home schooled full time, we are looking for an enthusiastic and self-driven personal assistant for her, to join her team of physiotherapist, music therapist, and personal assistants.

The ideal candidate would be very much involved in Sophie’s sensory activities, and help develop (be as creative as you can be!) and deliver sensory activities supporting the targets within her EHCP (Education Health Care Plan). Hence experience in SEN, PMLD, as well as special needs care, would be of great advantage. The necessary training would be provided, particularly in moving and handling and her specific health needs.

The ideal candidate would need to have a keen interest in getting to know Sophie, develop a relationship with her and interact with her during her activities and throughout the day (which involves a lot of fun sensory play and taking her out to hydrotherapy sessions and to the local park!), whilst also supporting her personal/medical needs.

We are a very supportive family and will provide the training required, specially from a health perspective.

We very much operate as a team and support each other by sharing ideas and expertise as we progress on this journey together.

Roles and Responsibilities
• Carry out sensory activities around the educational targets within Sophie’s EHCP document (initially work closely with parents so knowledge about Sophie and current activities can be shared)
• Deliver personal care
• Enteral feeding (training will be provided)
• Taking Sophie out to her activities outside of the house, such as to the swimming pool, to the park etc
• Supporting Sophie with her medical needs such as: suctioning of secretions as and when needed, temperature monitoring, postural care, light physiotherapy stretches, medicine administration (training will be provided) etc.

Specific Requirements
We are looking for a female Personal Assistant who is compassionate, enthusiastic, self-driven, who takes initiative and who takes great pride in her work. We are fully supportive with training and guidance along the way, and being part of Sophie’s team really means being part of her family too.

Required Training
• DBS check
• Epilepsy (provided)
• Enteral feeding (provided)
• Moving and handling (provided)
• Experience in complex health care would be advantageous
• Experience in Special Educational Needs and Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties would be advantageous in this role.
