Summary
It is a waking night role. Sophie’s carer will monitor her breathing, temperature, seizures and overall safety through the night. Appropriate action will have to be taken through the night to keep her stable, as described under Roles and Responsibilities.
Roles and Responsibilities
● Monitor and attend to Sophie’s needs during night shifts to ensure her safety and wellbeing – training will be provided on her specific needs
● Ensure that Sophie’s breathing is supported with the BiPAP equipment, following our instructions and advice, specifically regarding her masks.
● Suction Sophie’s sections to keep her airways clear and safe, as and when required.
● Monitor Sophie’s temperature through the night, at least every 2 hours, and adjust blankets and scoliosis brace accordingly.
● Ensure that all equipment (BiPAP, suction pump, thermometer, ipad, baby monitor) are in good working order at the start of every shift.
● Monitor Sophie’s seizures through the night – follow her epilepsy care plan and contact one of her parents should she require rescue medication Buccolam.
● Use the form on the ipad to record Sophie’s temperature, saturation level every hour and any seizure activity.
● Contact the family during the night if Sophie shows any signs of illness (e.g. high temperature), has seizures longer that 30 minutes, struggles with her breathing more than her usual pattern despite the BiPAP, or any other signs that indicate that she is deteriorating in her health.
● Administer medication, milk and water via the button, following the instructions provided – training will be provided
● The night shifts typically start at 9pm and end at 7am the following day.

We are looking for a female carer who is compassionate, diligent, takes great pride in the quality of their work and who would embrace working closely with a family like ours. We are fully supportive in providing training and guidance along the way, so as to ensure that Sophie’s carer is well equipped with sufficient knowledge on her and her needs, to be able to deliver great care.

• Enteral feeding (provided)
• Moving and handling (provided)
• Experience in waking night care
• Experience in complex health care would be highly advantageous
