Teaching Assistant Opportunities - Primary School (NP19, Newport)
Start Date: 13th April | Summer Term | Potential Permanent Roles from September
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for your next rewarding opportunity? We are currently recruiting on behalf of a large, busy, and supportive primary school on the outskirts of Newport for two exciting Teaching Assistant positions starting this April.
These roles are confirmed for the remainder of the academic year, with strong potential to become permanent from September for the right candidates.
The roles available:
Foundation Phase Specialist (Nursery - Year 1)
We are looking for a confident and adaptable Teaching Assistant with a passion for early years education. You will be working across Nursery to Year 1, supporting pupils and working closely with class teachers.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Experience in nursery, preschool, or Flying Start settings
- Nappy changing experience
- Strong classroom support experience within the Foundation Phase
- Relevant childcare or education qualifications (desirable)
- The ability to build strong relationships with young learners and staff
- Confidence working flexibly across different classes
Behaviour Specialist (Key Stage 2)
This role is perfect for a resilient and proactive Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with additional learning needs (ALN) and behavioural challenges.
You will:
- Support pupils within a challenging KS2 environment
- Intervene when required to manage behaviour effectively
- Deliver small group nurture sessions outside of the classroom
- Provide consistent, calm, and structured support
Ideal candidates will have:
- Previous 1:1 or small group support experience
- Experience working with children with ALN and behavioural needs
- Training such as Team Teach or Thrive (highly desirable)
- A proactive approach and the ability to work independently

Requirements:
- Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service
- EWC registration
- A minimum of two professional references
