Join Our Team as a Pre‑Operative Assessment Nurse!

Are you passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and ensuring the safest possible surgical journey? We’re looking for a dedicated and proactive healthcare professional to join our Pre‑Operative Assessment team.

In this vital role, you will:
• Conduct comprehensive pre‑operative nursing and medical assessments for patients preparing for a wide range of surgical procedures.
• Ensure all required investigations, tests, and results are completed and available ahead of admission, supporting seamless surgical planning.
• Work closely with Anaesthetists and Surgeons, identifying and communicating any potential medical concerns that may impact surgery.
• Coordinate onward referrals to primary and secondary care services, ensuring patients’ health is optimised before their procedure.
• Act as the central point of care coordination, guiding patients through their pre‑operative journey right up to the point of admission.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated clinician who thrives on autonomy, multidisciplinary collaboration, and delivering outstanding patient-centred care.

You will adhere to the NMC Code of Practice at all times and ensure the ward complies with all relevant hospital policies and procedures.

You will support the development, implementation and monitoring of governance systems within the ward or department, including Risk Management, Health and Safety and Controls Assurance. You will work autonomously when completing face‑to‑face and telephone pre‑assessments.

After one year in the department, you will be expected to undertake training in triage clinics.

You will be responsible for the pre‑operative nursing and medical assessment of patients undergoing a range of surgical procedures. This includes completing comprehensive assessments, ensuring all required investigations and results are obtained before admission, and liaising with Anaesthetists and Surgeons regarding any medical concerns. You will make appropriate referrals to primary or secondary care to optimise each patient’s health and act as the coordinator of care until the patient is admitted for surgery.

You will be required to take clinical observations and carry out phlebotomy, ECGs and spirometry.

Effective communication is essential, including regular liaison with the multidisciplinary team across departments.

You must adhere to Trust values at all times.

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.
