Start: ASAP Grade: SHO / Junior Clinical Fellow (ST1–ST2 level) Specialty: General Medicine / Acute Medicine / Medical Wards Type: Agency Locum Location: NHS Trust (UK) Duration: Ongoing / Short-term or Long-term placements Hours: Full-time rota including days, nights, and weekends (as required)
Role Overview
The doctor will work as part of the medical team providing high quality clinical care to patients across general medical wards, AMU, or related medical specialties. The role involves assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients under consultant supervision while ensuring safe and effective patient flow.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide day to day clinical care for medical inpatients and admissions.
• Conduct clerking, history taking, examinations, and initial management plans.
• Participate in ward rounds with senior clinicians.
• Request and interpret investigations appropriately.
• Support safe discharge planning and multidisciplinary communication.
• Manage acute presentations and escalate concerns to senior staff when required.
• Participate in the full rota, including out of hours shifts.
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in line with NHS standards.
• Contribute to patient safety, governance, and quality improvement activities.
Essential Requirements
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (no sponsorship available for this role).
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• ALS (Advanced Life Support) certification – mandatory.
• Minimum 2 years of NHS experience, ideally within General Medicine or Acute Medicine.
• Ability to work independently at SHO/ST1–ST2 level with appropriate senior support.
• Up to date mandatory training and full compliance documentation.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Desirable Experience
• Previous experience in AMU, A&E, Respiratory, Cardiology, or Elderly Care.
• Experience with NHS electronic systems
• Participation in audits or QI projects.
