Primary Duties of the Position

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a professional mechanical engineer, performing design, project-planning and construction management/monitoring duties in support of the installation.

As a Mechanical Engineer, your role is project management, focusing on building services (MEP) for complex facilities. You will apply your engineering expertise to oversee the entire life cycle of large, multi-phase projects. Your responsibilities will include managing a variety of works, from HVAC upgrades and facility refurbishments to large-scale demolition and new construction. This involves managing contracts, ensuring projects meet all specifications, implementing quality control, and leading the commissioning of building services. Additionally, you will handle program planning, budget management, and provide expert coordination for facilities management.

Qualifications & Key Skills required for this role

A degree in an appropriate scientific field plus one year of specialized experience as per the required key skills, or
HND/City and Guilds/ NVQ Level 5/6 in an appropriate scientific field. Progressively more years of specialized experience (as outlined in the key skills) are required for qualifications below degree level.

1. Professional knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles and practices, and familiarity with architectural and other engineering disciplines.
2. Knowledge of a broad range of engineering and construction methods, practices and techniques, and contracting standards relating to facilities engineering to determine compliance with current codes, regulations and laws.
3. Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, procedures and laws, and current legislative issues.
4. Knowledge of the regulatory and statutory restrictions on expenditures of different types of funding.
5. Knowledge of automated data processing concepts and systems capabilities to be able to effectively accomplish assigned functions; to include knowledge of program planning and budgeting cycles, financial control, budget systems and management.
6. Knowledge of aesthetic and functional design techniques and skill in preparing project documentation, to include preliminary drawings, sketches, and construction drawings; and skill in drafting sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas to formulate working drawings.
7. Ability to plan, conduct and record site/facilities surveys and inspection; to analyze, interpret, and apply results, rules, regulations, and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions.
8. Ability to plan and organize work and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and architects; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing and maintain good working relationships.

Conditions of employment for this role
1. You must handle sensitive information per US and UK laws and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
2. You may be required to travel internationally by military aircraft.
3. You will serve a 6-month probationary period, and overtime or additional duties may be assigned.
4. Effective oral and written communication is essential; you may act as a project liaison or serve on A&E selection boards.
5. The work schedule is 37.5 hours/week (Mon-Fri, 0800-1630), with flexibility for mission needs. Overtime or additional duties may be assigned. The position could be mission essential.
6. You are required to complete all necessary training, and while not regularly drug tested, you may be subject to testing based on reasonable suspicion or safety incidents.

NOTE: You will require a security clearance and a right to work in the UK.
