Job Title: High Level Teaching Assistant


Location:Near Bexhill

Working Pattern: Part-Time (Monday-Thursday)

Start Date: After Easter Break

A specialist school for children with complex needs is seeking a committed and skilled SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join the team on a maternity cover contract starting after the Easter break.This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a nurturing, therapeutic learning environment where every child is supported to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, support staff and senior leaders to deliver high‑quality learning experiences tailored to individual needs.

About the Role

  • Deliver small‑group and 1:1 learning sessions in line with teacher planning and individual support plans.
  • Lead lessons when required, ensuring continuity of learning across the curriculum.
  • Support pupils with a range of SEN, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD and communication needs.
  • Contribute to behaviour regulation, emotional support and positive relationship‑building.
  • Assist with planning, assessment and progress tracking.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment.



What We're Looking For

  • HLTA status (or equivalent experience with willingness to work towards it).
  • Strong understanding of SEN and SEMH needs.
  • Confident in leading learning and managing small groups.
  • Calm, resilient and nurturing approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Passion for helping young people overcome barriers and achieve their potential.



Contract Details

  • Maternity cover
  • Start date: After Easter
  • Part-Time (Monday-Wednesday 8:30-3:30 Thursday 8:30-4:15)
  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications


What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Experience supporting children or young people with behavioural or emotional needs, or a strong willingness to learn
  • A compassionate, patient, and positive approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and model positive behaviour
  • A proactive, flexible attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
