Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) Deployed Capability Engineer
This role is an opportunity to become part of a growing team, containing System/Network Engineers and Software Developers who are responsible for providing solutions to Maritime Situational Awareness problem sets.
The suitable candidate must be capable of:
- Self-initiating work that meets technical and project objectives, establishing and working to milestones to achieve outcomes.
- Communicating clearly, both formally and informally, to build appropriate and effective relationships with users, customers, and suppliers.
- Analysing, designing, planning, executing, and evaluating work to time, cost, and quality, including Agile practices in support of project goals.
- Making decisions that influence the success of programme/project objectives.
- Collaborating with team members, users, customers, and suppliers to ensure needs are met throughout.
- Performing a range and variety of complex technical and/or professional work activities including, but not limited to:
- System/Solution support and operation that can meet Government Assurance/ Compliance and security standards, including installation reports, system/equipment specifications, safety cases, trial schedules, schematics, installation guidance.
- Provision of technical detail for Business Cases.
- Develop, deliver, build, commission, test, and present capability to acceptance authority.
- Stakeholder engagement in support of MDA activity, providing technical guidance, asset management and alignment of schedules.
- Organise and conduct surveys of MOD and cross-Government installations for provision of MDA capability.
- Provision of Second and Third-Line support for MDA Programme deployed products and services.
- Undertaking work requiring application of fundamental principles in a wide and unpredictable range of contexts including, but not limited to:
- Site and afloat infrastructure installations.
- Network infrastructure (Cisco/Juniper).
- Installation of desktop client and collaborative working environments.
- Provision of products and services for enduring contribution to the Recognised Maritime Picture (RMP) and MOD partners.
- RF Data propagation in the VHF/SHF spectrums encompassing end to end transmission of positional data.
- Familiarity with recognised industry bodies and standards both generic and specific, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards including, but not limited to:
- MOD JSP440/JSP604, BR 9274, SCIDA, DEFSTAN, relevant ISOs and NIST/CIS Benchmark.
- Ability to actively seek to improve knowledge for professional development and to mentor/coach others including, but not limited to:
- Equipment familiarization to first line support engineers and users of newly deployed Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) systems and capabilities.
- Upskilling Junior Engineers within the MDA Engineering team.
- Demonstrating a wide breadth of knowledge across MOD operational fixed/deployable CIS and C5ISTAR environments and industry/business areas. Represent Navy Digital as Technical Authority with international collaborative initiatives
- Understanding and communicating the role and impact of applied technology in the deploying organisation.
- Assessing, evaluating, articulating, and escalating programme and project risk.
- Contributing to the security culture of the organisation by proactively ensuring security is appropriately addressed within business area.
- Domestic and international travel in support of MDA objectives.
Role specifics
- Start date - ASAP
- End date - Initial 12 month contract period
- 220 days over a 12-month period (pro rata in line with start date). A standard day is assumed to be 7.5 hours.
- There may be an element of providing out of hours support (on-call) as required.
- An additional 20 contingency days are available for emergency/un-forecasted tasking, or tasking delivered outside of core business hours per 12-month period (40 pre-authorised contingency days for the duration of the contract).
- Candidate will need to be able to attain a minimum SC clearance.
- Consultancy/support services CONDO compliant iaw DEFSTAN 05129.
- Rate - dependent on experience and interview.
